L. Yunus: Taking the opportunity of Eurovision display reality of Azerbaijan’s administration
Human Rights Watch develops a report on the human rights situation in Azerbaijan and plans to unveil it soon following the Amnesty International report on massive violations in Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijani Ombudsman Leyla Yunus has told “Azadlig” that “Eurovision 2012” international song contest, that Baku is supposed to host in May, is a good opportunity to display mafia-clan regime reality of Azerbaijan.
“The law doesn’t function in Azerbaijan. The freedom of speech severely suffers, journalists are being killed and arrested, right of property of the citizens is also greatly violated.
Human Rights Watch studied the situation in Azerbaijan in June and sent a letter to Ilham Aliyev which has been left without response. The organization is intended to release the results of a new survey.
Thus, taking the opportunity of Eurovision we’ve decided to display the reality in Azerbaijan,” said the human rights defender.
