Aram Amirzadyan: 15 years for state treason not enough
The charge against three Armenian young men spying for Azerbaijan and accused of state treason, is substantiated, senior attorney Aram Amirzadyan told Panorama.am.
“We deal with a state treason, which is of greater importance for Armenia’s self-government and generally, for the security of the country,” Amirzadyan stated.
Karen Mehrabyan, the leader of the group, Ashot Chtrkyan and Romik Mehrabyan are charged for committing a state treason. If the court establishes their guilt, the accused will be sentenced to 10-15 years in prison.
“I think 10-15 years of term is not enough for a state treason,” said the attorney.
In the framework of the same case, Karen Petrosyan and Arthur and Davit Avetikyans are also accused of being aware of the crime, but for not informing law enforcement administrators.
Aram Amirzadyan has told Panorama.am reporter that this is the sixth case of state treason in the history of independent Armenia. Murad Bojolyan, who was spying for Turkey, is now released.
“Armenia, Nagorno-Karabakh’s self-defense and armaments, and generally, the NK army are of great interest for Azerbaijan’s special services,” said the attorney.
