Turkish FM threatens France
Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoglu appealed to the French Parliament from the Majlis tribune, saying that to pass the bill criminalizing denial of Armenian Genocide means to undermine freedom of expression and the former values, Sondakika Turkish website reported.
“This medieval trend which is obvious in France is the greatest danger for Europe. France considers itself the enlightenment center of the European Union but if this bill passes, France will become the first country to adopt medieval thinking,” said Davutoglu.
The FM noted Turkey will respond resolutely to France if the bill passes.
Note that on December 7, 2011 the legal commission of the French Senate passed a bill criminalizing denial of Armenian Genocide, authored by Valerie Boyer. The French Senate will discuss the bill on December 22. The bill envisages one year prison term and a fine of 45,000 euros for anyone who denies the fact of Armenian Genocide.
