Argentina's president has cancer
Argentina's President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and will undergo surgery in January, her spokesman says, according to Press TV.
Government spokesman Alfredo Scoccimarro broke the news on Tuesday, adding that the cancerous cells had not spread to other parts of her body.
Scoccimarro said the president will have an operation on January 4 to have the cancerous tumor removed and will then take 20 days of medical leave to recuperate.
Fernandez, 58, began her second term as president after a land-slide re-election victory in October.
