ECHR satisfies Azerbaijani opposition representatives’ claim
The European Court of Human Rights passed on Jan. 10 a judgment regarding chairman of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Ali Kerimli, head of Musavat Party’s Central Executive Board Arif Hajili, chairman of Azerbaijan Democratic Party Sardar Mammadov (Jalaloglu) and chairman of Intellectuals Party Gulamhuseyn Alibeyli.
Lawyer Esabeli Mustafayev told Turan that according to the judgment, Article 3 (right to free elections) and Article 14 (discrimination) of the European Convention on Human Rights were violated.
The applicants complained about the invalidation of the results of the November 2005 national parliamentary elections in which, they claimed, they were the outright winners in their respective constituencies.
