Armenia should have paid for Tumanyan’s house from state budget
Chorrord Inknishkhanutyun daily commented on the information that Gyumri Mayor is going to buy Hovhannes Tumanyan’s house in Tbilisi.
“The point is not that Vardan Ghukasyan can turn Tumanyan’s house into a hotel, or his relatives will live there and shoot at passerbies. In all probability, nothing of the kind is going to happen. The point is that Tumanyan’s house was to be sold to some Turk and if some Armenian businessman prevented it, the whole world would know that there are people in Armenia who are ready to protect their national values. While instead, now the whole world learnt that Armenia is a country where a mayor living on a modest salary can afford to spend huge sums of money and even boast of it.”
“Regarding Hovhannes Tumanyan’s house, Armenia was obliged to settle that issue at the government level and to pay for the house from the state budget. And if the state budget lacks this money, it means that Vardan Ghukasyan and persons like him are to blame for this,” Chorrord Inknishkhanutyun writes.
