Shirkhanyan: Country won’t be thrown in emergency situation after parliamentary elections
“If emergency situation is declared in Armenia, the army must be watchful towards the country borders,” former Deputy Defense Minister Vahan Shirkhanyan said in a news conference remarking on a bill on “Legal regime of state of emergency” submitted to National Assembly by the Government.
According to V. Shirkhanyan every country must have a law on Emergency Situations, but Armenia’s security system can maintain stability in the country.
“Armenian internal and security forces are enough to maintain stability and the army involvement in country’s domestic life, I think, is not correct,” he said.
Asked if by that law the government isn’t determined to insure itself against the forthcoming parliamentary elections, the former statesman said:
“After the forthcoming parliamentary elections, the country will not be thrown in emergency situation. They are parliamentary and not presidential elections. Conflict of opinions is milder than in case of presidential elections.”
V. Shirkhanyan has signified the government have been implementing steps in recent 2 years to ease people’s concerns.
“The government takes measures to improve industrial and agricultural spheres. If the future steps are more efficient, presidential elections won’t as much strained,” said V. Shirkhanyan.
