Turkish historian: Turkey publicly backs Armenophobia
Turkish outcast historian, intellectual, having recognized Armenian Genocide, Taner Akcam had an interview with Turkish Taraf paper and pointed Turkish state support to racism. Akcam has particularly said if Armenians weren’t Christians, Muslim Turks wouldn’t annihilate them.
Condemning government’s support to “Don’t believe lies of Armenians” posters appeared in Istanbul, Akcam requested PM Erdogan: how he would feel if “Don’t believe lies of Muslims, Turks” posters appeared in New York or in Berlin.
Regarding demonstrations held in Istanbul dedicated to Khojaly events; Taner Akcam said Ankara sent a message to Armenians worldwide claiming if pressure is imposed to recognize the Genocide, Turkey would direct racism towards Khojaly events.
“For so long racism was hiding in Turkey. Now the authorities publicly back Armenophobia. Turkish citizens of Armenian descent are in danger, as Interior Minister, responsible for the security of lives of Armenians, participates in those demonstrations. Generally lives of Christian citizens of Turkey are endangered,” Turkish historian said.
