At least 15 policemen killed in the western Indian as a result of explosion
As BBC reports, a landmine explosion in the western Indian state of Maharashtra has killed at least 15 policemen, officials say.
The attack has been blamed on Maoist rebels, who operate in the area as well as several other Indian states.
It is one of the worst attacks on Indian police in two years.
The blast, which occurred in Gadhchiroli in the east of Maharashtra state is the latest attack in the rebels' decades-long low-intensity war against local and national authorities in India, Al Jazeera says.
An official said the policemen were travelling through a densely forested area when the rebels set off a land mine, blowing up the vehicle.
The explosion was so powerful that it could be heard several kilometres away and the bus was turned into a mangled heap of twisted metal, a police officer in the district told the BBC.
The official said another 15 policemen were wounded in the powerful blast, the sources say.
