David Harutyunyan proposes on behalf of RPA discussing draft rules on electoral process
Member of RPA executive body David Harutyunyan has issued a statement calling on all parties running in elections to discuss the draft rules introduced by RPA. The statement reads in part:
“A significant event took place yesterday: several parties running in the parliamentary elections decided to create a joint watchdog group that would take control of the electoral process. The idea is good in itself but I regret to say that out of nine parties, only four signed the agreement.
I want to remind you that earlier, RPA had introduced a comprehensive program on electoral process, including public control over the electoral process and addressing a broad range of issues.
Today we don’t mean the “copyright” of this or that force but rather the essence. We think first of all, the parties should establish rules of civilized electoral competition.
Let us not turn this significant process into PR, but really involve everybody, let us agree over everything with a single package, let us agree over the mechanisms of public control over elections, our behavior, mutual respect and fair competition. Let us agree and implement it together – with eight parties and one alliance.
This is the way to real democracy.
Creation of a joint watchdog group is merely one of the mechanisms which will give us the possibility to discuss any issues in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
Realizing this dictate, I propose on behalf of our party that all parties running in elections discuss the draft rules we have developed, for us to start finalizing them tomorrow already. I am confident our proposal will receive proper response.”
