Gaddafi’s son charged with camels license
Muammar Gaddafi’s son Saif al-Islam Gaddafi has only been charged with trivial matters such as failure to license his camels, human rights campaigners have claimed, The Telegraph said.
Kenneth Roth, the head of the campaign group, Human Rights Watch, appeared with angry intervention posting on his Twitter account: “Saif Gaddafi lawyers say #Libya 1st said wouldn't charge "serious crimes, such as murder & rape, due to lack of evidence."
Reed Brody, a researcher at Human Rights Watch, said Libya's determination to put Saif, 39, on trial had jeopardised efforts to bring Col Gaddafi's heir apparent to justice.
The captured former London School of Economics graduate should be handed over to The Hague.
"The Libyan authorities have a clear obligation under UN Security Council resolution 1970 to surrender Saif," he said. "Trial at the ICC is a last resort but the ability of the Libyans to be able to do complex criminal trials of this sort is not present in the chaotic current circumstances.
