Vatan: Anti-Turkish moods in the Netherlands
Turkey’s President Abdullah Gul plans to pay a visit to the Netherlands to mark 400 years of relations between Turkey and the Netherlands. Turkish daily Vatan says Abdullah Gul had an interview with Dutch mass-circulation daily De Telegraaf.
It’s reported that Gul has called Freedom Party leader Geert Wilders an Islamophobe. He continued, saying because of Wilders “a negative us-against-them climate is developing in Europe, which is laying the foundation for ethnic religious discrimination.”
However, Geert Wilders launched a campaign against Gul’s visit to the Netherlands. In his Twitter page Wilders said: “Islamist Gul, who persecutes the Christians, attacks the Kurds and is in friendly relations with Hamas, complaint of intolerance. Typical Turkish humor.”
