UN Corner at Slavonic University
Students of the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University will have access to more information on UN values and UN work in Armenia, since a UN Corner was launched today in the library of the university.
The UN publications and multimedia materials which were provided by the UN for the UN Corner will serve to further educate youth on UN values and UN functioning. The professors and students of the university will also use the UN Corner to organize UN-related cultural, educational, and other events.
The UN Corner was opened in accordance with a Plan for Cooperation between UN Department of Public Information and the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University, which was signed at the ceremony.
In addition to the UN Corner, the Plan for Cooperation between two institutions envisages organization of Model UN Conferences, UN outreach lectures and will provide more opportunities for students participation in various UN activities.
“I highly appreciate our cooperation and we are happy to implement joint projects, which will allow the young generation to be involved in the valuable network of UN and to feel their own importance in the processes of peace and development in the World.
Students are very enthusiastic to the Corner of UN in RAU, the Model of UN, the Day of Russian Language and other initiatives that are held in RAU. I truly believe that our cooperation will affect the valuable progress and development and will be long-lasting in perspective”, said Armen Darbinyan, Rector of the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University.
Dafina Gercheva, UN Resident coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative said: “I am pleased that we are further expanding our cooperation with Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University. UN focuses on youth empowerment and students are our reliable partners in promotion of UN values. The launching of this UN Corner is a part of the initiatives dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Armenian membership in the UN and the 20th anniversary of the UN presence in Armenia.
At the same time the Biblio-bus of the National Library of Armenia was distributing UN publications to the students at the University yard. This was organized in the framework of designation of Yerevan as the 2012 World Book Capital, which Yerevan will celebrate next week, on April 23, on the World Book and Copyright Day.
