43 tons of hashish seized in Canada
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police says it was involved in a huge international drug bust that nabbed more than 43 tons of hashish worth an estimated $860 million, Associated Press reported.
That's the equivalent of 43 million grams (1.52 million ounces) — enough hashish to drug all of Canada's 34 million people.
The drugs were seized in several countries including Pakistan, Belgium, Italy and Canada. They were destined for Montreal and Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Police said in a statement Wednesday the amount seized is equivalent to more than half of all the hashish sent to Canada, or confiscated here, in 2009.
