Grandma’s Tattoos film hero dies aged 105
A survivor of the Armenian Genocide Maria Vardanyan passed away at the age of 105, filmmaker Suzanne Khardalian told “Ermenihaber.am” news site. Maria Vardanyan was the main hero of “Grandma’s Tattoos” documentary chronicle about Armenian Genocide.
Maria Vardanyan was born in 1905 in Malatia. She told the Swiss Armenian filmmaker the story of her life, about abduction and slavery for many years somewhere in Turkey. She told how the Turks killed her father and abducted her mother.
“A proud Armenian, a strong woman who found the courage to tell what was forbidden to. She told her story and inherited it to us…,” said Suzanne Khardalian.
