Charles Aznavour marks his 88 anniversary
Renowned French Armenian songwriter, singer, actor and political activists Charles Aznavour marks his 88 anniversary today. Aznavour was born in 1924 in Paris to Armenian immigrants Michael and Knar Aznavourian. When a child Charles was taken to theatre, in 1940 he sang in Cabaret with Pier Rosh.
His first song «I'm drunk" (1944), performed by George Ulmiyer was awarded ‘’Year CD’’ nomination, though Aznavour himself was not popular for a long time. Global fame came to Aznavour in 1956, after a successive performance in Paris’’ Olympia’’ hall.
Aznavour wrote about eight hundred songs. Aznavour is the author of the international hits as following Bohemia, Il faut savoir, Ave Maria, She and etc. Those songs have been performed by Céline Dion, Laura Pausini, Josh Groban, Plácido Domingo .
