Iran’s MFA urges Azerbaijan to conduct detailed examination
Iran’s Foreign Ministry urged Azerbaijan to conduct a detailed examination of religious sanctities insulting case, Iranian news agency FARS quotes Iranian MFA spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast as saying.
“We urge Azerbaijan to conduct a detailed examination of the case insulting the religious sanctities and to undertake certain measures against the suspects,” the spokesman said.
Iranian news agency IRAS said that some groups supported by the ruling party of Azerbaijan held a rally in front of Iran’s Embassy in Azerbaijan and chanted offensive statements in address to Iranian Supreme Leader.
Protesting the action, Iran’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohammad Bagher Bahrami quitted Azerbaijan on May 21 and returned to Iran to hold consultations over the incident. Next day Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Iran Javanshir Akhundov was summoned to the Foreign Ministry.
