International Children Protection Day marked
“In recent years some interesting events are being organized for the children, there are more parks where the children can have a good time. It’s really nice. Today, I’ve promised by 4-year-old son to take him to Zoo Park, then we’ll go to a children’s café. I want this day to differ for him,” said Armine.
Today International Children’s Protection Day is marked. First proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1954, it was established to encourage all countries to institute a day, firstly to promote mutual exchange and understanding among children and secondly to initiate action to benefit and promote the welfare of the world's children. It was also chosen as the day to celebrate childhood. The holiday was first celebrated worldwide in October 1953, under the sponsorship of International Union for Child Welfare in Geneva. The idea of a Universal Children's Day was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1954.
The Municipality of Yerevan, different organizations and museums have initiated events dedicated to the day.
