A Zakaryan: Disposition of Armenian side in line with disposition of OSCE MG and international community
“The Los Cabos statement issued by the presidents of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair states is evidence that the international community, at the head of the OSCE Minsk Group, is committed to put forth efforts for the peaceful settlement of the NK conflict,” Artak Zakaryan, chairman of NA standing committee on foreign relations, told Panorama.am remarking on the joint statement issued by the head of the co-chair states.
Barack Obama of the United States, Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation, and François Hollande of France made a statement on Nagorno-Karabakh at the Los Cabos Summit of the Twenty. The statement reads in particular: “Military force will not resolve the conflict and would only prolong the suffering and hardships endured by the peoples of the region for too long. Only a peaceful, negotiated settlement can allow the entire region to move beyond the status quo toward a secure and prosperous future.”
All those provisions that official Yerevan is repeatedly voicing are comprised in the statement, said Mr Zakaryan.
“They are the withdrawal of snipers, adoption of decisions for peaceful settlement, commitment to the agreements, evidence of constructive approaches, implementation of Helsinki Final Act, guarantee for regional security and stable peace and commitment to continue the negotiations based on mutual trust.
The OSCE MG messages addressed to the sides remain basis of constructive, tolerant and trustworthy policy of the Armenian side aimed to peace and just solution. This statement is evidence that the dispositions of the Armenian side are in line with the approaches of the OSCE MG and the international community,” said the chairman of the committee.
Mr Zakaryan stressed a problem saying the international community urges the sides to restrain and be constructive only when the tensions escalate and war risks appear.
“Alas, every time we are recording casualties and injuries and this is the price to keep relative peace and border security. I am thinking it’s high time the international community to make individual remarks, in particular, on rhetoric, anti-Armenian operations of Azerbaijan and mechanisms forcing ceasefire regime.
It will be a concrete step to form atmosphere of mutual trust. And the Los Cabos statement confirms the soul and idea of L’Aquila, Muskoka and Deauville statements, which say implementation of self-determination right of peoples through peace, respect for the territorial integrity, particularly when the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh has never been engaged in the territory of today’s Azerbaijan,” said A Zakaryan.
