Aghtamar church to host mass on September 9
Surb Khach (Holy Cross) Church on Aghtamar Island, Van prepares for a mass, Ermenihaber.am news website reported.
The Armenian church, dating back to the 10th century, was built under the rule of King Gagik Artsruni of Vaspurakan.
According to the website, this year the mass is scheduled for September 9.
Van Deputy Governor Atay Uslu held a special meeting to announce that Van has already been restored after the earthquake in 2011 and is ready to host tourists.
Three years ago, after being renovated, Aghtamar’s Surb Khach Church was turned into a museum. Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism allowed one day of the year to hold a mass in Aghtamar.
