Putin ready to support Iran
President of Russia Vladimir Putin conveyed condolences to his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad over the losses of life inflicted by two strong earthquakes on Saturday, the Kremlin press service said Sunday.
Putin expressed his profound sympathy to the victims of the disaster, saying Russia is ready to provide necessary aid and support to the quake-hit country.
An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale rocked northwestern Iran on Saturday. The temblor has killed at least 300 people and injured over 2,000 others, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.
At least 35 aftershocks had occurred in the region.
