Expert: Syria tension may continue for about 6 months
The Syria tension may continue for about 6 months, political scientist Alexander Markarov told reporters in Yerevan.
“With a civil war taking place in Syria, various players refrain from foreign intervention in Syria for certain reasons,” the expert said and added that Syria’s neighboring countries will be affected by the situation in Syria.
As for the impact of the Syria crisis on the South Caucasus, the expert believes that Armenia prioritizes the security of the Armenian community as well as preservation of stability and peace in the region.
The Syrian opposition fighting Assad regime, in contrast to that of Libya, is not viewed as a united force, the expert noted.
According to him, the developments in Syria may also be considered as a fight between Sunnis and Shiites, and foreign interventions may make interethnic and other conflicts in Syria even worse.
