Expert: Depression will be the most prevalent mental disorder in the world in 2020
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 450m people in the world have mental disorders, with 1 in 4 people experiencing some kind of mental health problem, Armen Soghoyan, chairman of the Armenian Psychiatric Association, Honorary Member of the World Psychiatric Association, told reporters in Yerevan.
50,000 people are treated in mental health facilities in Armenia, Soghoyan said, adding that the real number of people suffering from mental illnesses is much higher. Idée fixe and post-traumatic neurosis are the most common forms of mental illness in Armenia.
The number of mentally ill people increases in the world, and depression is predicted to be the most prevalent mental disorder in the world in 2020, said the expert.
