Iranian Vice President accuses Azerbaijan of ignoring environmental problems of Caspian Sea
Azerbaijan should be blamed for Caspian Sea pollution, announced Mohammad-Javad Mohammadizadeh, Vice President and Head of Environmental Protection Organization of Iran, Iran's IRIB news agency said.
Mohammadizadeh urged Azerbaijan to pay attention to the water resources of the Caspian Sea as well as its environmental problems.
Abdolreza Karbasi, Deputy Head of the Organization for Marine Affairs, has stated recently that an investigation of the coastal region of Gilan province in northern Iran has shown that a growing number of oil blotches are visible in the waters.
"The Republic of Azerbaijan carries out its petroleum activities with worn-out devices and it is not concerned about its capacity to clean this body of water," he said.
Karbasi added that an estimate of clean-up costs will be prepared, and the Iranian Foreign Ministry will present it to Azerbaijan as a fine.
