Bako Sahakyan: We are interested in establishing relations with political parties of other countries
“Quite a favorable atmosphere has been established in Artsakh both for the deepening ties between political parties and their cooperation with the authorities. We consider it to be a great achievement, which must be maintained and developed on a steady basis,” Artsakh President Bako Sahakyan said in his opening remarks at a roundtable conference in Stepanakert, titled “Political Parties in Modern Democratic Systems.”
Below is the full text of President Sahakyan’s address.
Dear participants,
I welcome all the attendees of the “Political Parties in Modern Democratic Systems” roundtable and express my satisfaction with such a significant event being held in Artsakh.
Political parties are among the most important institutions without which modern society is barely impossible to imagine. They are pivotal components of the state system functioning too. It is natural that the existence of strong and established parties, civilized relations between them including that of competition substantially contribute to boosting the country’s development, raising the efficiency of the country’s domestic and foreign policy.
The role of political parties, their close cooperation in the solution of Pan-Armenian issues, such as the Artsakh problem and the recognition of the Armenian Genocide is also of utmost significance. These are issues, which require an integrated approach and coherent work.
Quite a favorable atmosphere has been established in Artsakh both for the deepening ties between political parties and their cooperation with the authorities. We consider it to be a great achievement, which must be maintained and developed on a steady basis.
At the same time we still have much to do. It is necessary, for instance, to expand inter-party ties with the Armenian and Diaspora political forces, which will be one of the most important factors in strengthening the Armenia-Artsakh-Diaspora trinity. We are also interested in establishing and developing relations with political parties of other countries.
From this perspective “Political Parties in the Contemporary Democratic Systems” roundtable can have its worthy contribution to the processes we consider very much important for our country.
I am confident that the round table will accomplish its tasks successfully. I wish all of you fruitful work and all the best.
