Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan: Karabakh’s participation in talks should be made precondition for negotiations
Ramil Safarov’s extradition has raised tensions in the region, and is viewed by the international community as a serious challenge to regional security, political scientist Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan told a news conference in Yerevan.
According to him, the case of Safarov could become a new starting point in Karabakh negotiation process.
With the Armenian side having announced that it will not pull out of the negotiations, nevertheless, it had better put forward a set of preconditions for the negotiations, the political scientist stressed.
Karabakh’s participation in talks is the most important precondition, said the expert.
The Armenian side must also demand withdrawal of snipers from the front line as well as an end to shelling of Armenian villages not only from Azerbaijan, but also from OSCE member states and OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, Melik-Shahnazaryan concluded.
