Balloon blast trial postponed
The Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan’s Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative districts postponed today the balloon blast trial after Karine Manucharyan, a lawyer for defendant Serob Bozoyan, petitioned to give her 10 working days for getting familiarized with the materials of the case.
The court announced that the next sitting will be held on October 11.
Of around 200 burn victims, only 30 were present at the trial. Most of them were young girls who wore gloves to cover up scars on their hands from the balloon blast.
At the previous sitting, Serob Bozoyan with an extremely sad face petitioned to expedite the trial. Six of burn victims also appealed for expedited legal proceedings.
Gas-filled balloons exploded during a campaign rally in Yerevan’s central Republic Square on May 4, 2012, sending 154 people to hospital with burn injuries.
The person who charged the balloons, Serob Bozoyan, has been charged with releasing/realizing products that do not meet security standards, causing health damage to two or more people due to negligence.
