Iran's attorney general on arrests of current and previous presidents’ close people
The law must be applied equally to everyone who is guilty, Iran's attorney general announced, according to Tabnak.ir.
Commenting on the recent arrest of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s press adviser as well as former Iranian President Hashemi Rafsanjani’s children, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei said, “If the law is applied only to the weak, absolute injustice will prevail in the country.”
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s top press adviser, Ali Akbar Javanfekr, was taken into custody to begin serving a six-month jail sentence after being convicted of publishing material deemed insulting to the country’s supreme leader.
Rafsanjani's son, Mehdi Hashemi, was detained after returning to Iran from a self-imposed exile and spending three years of studying in the UK. He is believed to be held on accusations of having links to Iran's opposition Green movement and the popular unrest in the aftermath of the country's 2009 disputed presidential election.
Rafsanjani's daughter, Faezeh Hashemi, a political activist and former Iranian MP, was taken to Evin to serve a six-month prison term after being found guilty of "spreading propaganda against the regime."
