German envoy: It’s up to Armenia to decide when to restore diplomatic relations with Hungary
“We do not criticize Armenia for breaking off diplomatic relations with Hungary. This is Armenia’s right, Armenia’s independent decision,” German Ambassador to Armenia Reiner Morell told reporters in Yerevan, in response to a question of Panorama.am “does Germany share the opinion of PACE President Jean-Claude Mignon that Armenia’s suspension of relations with Hungary is unacceptable?”
“Safarov case is exceptional from emotional point of view. This move is absurd in itself. The consequences in Azerbaijan that followed Safarov’s extradition were also excessive. Under the circumstances, Armenia’s decision to break off diplomatic relations with Hungary is understandable,” said the Ambassador, adding that Armenia as a sovereign and independent state will decide for itself when to restore relations with Hungary.
