Armenian officer who tried to blow up Harsnakar Restaurant sentenced to 4 months in prison
The Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan’s Avan and Nor Nork administrative districts sentenced today Armenian Lieutenant Colonel Vardan Samvelyan who tried to blow up the Harsnakar Restaurant to 4 months in prison and fined him AMD 200,000.
His term of imprisonment will be calculated from July 1, 2012.
Samvelyan’s lawyer, Hovhannes Harutyunyan, told Panorama.am that he expected the court to release his client conditionally, but it didn’t happen so.
Prosecutor demanded 6 months in prison and a fine equal to AMD 200,000 for the defendant.
Samvelyan’s lawyer had requested an expedited trial as the defendant had admitted his guilt.
On the night of July 1, Vardan Samvelyan made an attempt to blow up the Harsnakar Restaurant, where military doctor Vahe Avetyan, 35, and two of his colleagues were severely beaten by the guards of Ruben Hayrapetyan, Harsnakar Restaurant’s owner, on June 17. Samvelyan wore a military uniform and carried a bag in which two grenades, cartridges and explosives were discovered.
