Piqué in fitness race ahead of 'El Clásico'
Barcelona's crunch match against Real Madrid is just three days away and, after losing Carles Puyol to injury, the Catalan club is now sweating over the fitness of Gerard Piqué. Piqué faces a fitness battle to play in Sunday's game and while the rest of the squad was given the day off, the Barça defender went to the club's training complex in the morning, where it seemed evident that he was still struggling to walk, Marca.com reports.
Rumours suggest that Piqué could play in the game, albeit with infiltration around his ankle joint.
The centre-back sprained his left ankle in the game against Spartak Moscow two weeks ago, which initially ruled him out of Sunday's 'El Clásico.'
However, the setback of the injury to Puyol, who sustained a dislocated elbow against Benfica on his return to action from a different injury, means that Piqué now faces a fitness battle with the aim of recovering before the medical team's predicted date of at least one more week.
