Ilham Aliyev’s bellicose statements target domestic audience, Mir Ghasem Moumeni, head of the New Perspectives analytical center, told Iran’s Fars news agency in an interview.

Commenting on the Azerbaijani President’s constant bellicose statements addressed to Nagorno-Karabakh, the Iranian expert said, “Over the past years, Azerbaijan has repeatedly threatened war against Armenia. But its threat was never carried out. The war threat rather has political and propaganda nature, and targets the domestic audience.”

Speaking on Karabakh talks within the OSCE Minsk Group format, Mir Ghasem Moumeni said, “Karabakh conflict is extra-regional. Armenia and Azerbaijan cannot solve that problem on their own. The United States, Russia and Europe have their own interests in the region.”

Regarding strained relations between Iran and Azerbaijan, the Iranian expert noted, “Azerbaijan’s assistance to Iran’s Panturkist separatist groups causes tension in relationship between Iran and Azerbaijan.”
