Defendant in balloon blast case has cancer: lawyer asks court to appoint conditional punishment
Karen Manucharyan, a lawyer for the defendant in the balloon blast case, Serob Bozoyan, made defense speech at the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan’s Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative districts today.
The lawyer asked the court to appoint conditional punishment, announcing for the first time that the defendant had cancer.
Presently judge Gagik Poghosyan is in the consultation room.
At the previous hearing, prosecutor Hakob Martirosyan issued the indictment, demanding one year in prison for Serob Bozoyan.
Gas-filled balloons exploded during a campaign rally in Yerevan’s central Republic Square on May 4, 2012, sending 154 people to hospital with burn injuries.
Serob Bozoyan, who charged the balloons, has been charged with releasing/realizing products that do not meet security standards, causing health damage to two or more people due to negligence.
