Balloon blast case: Serob Bozoyan sentenced to 1 year in prison
Judge Gagik Poghosyan released the verdict today in the case of blast of gas-filled balloons in Yerevan’s central square on May 4 of this year.
The court sentenced Serob Bozoyan, the only defendant in the case, to one year in prison.
Earlier today, defendant’s lawyer asked the court to appoint conditional punishment, announcing for the first time that the defendant had cancer.
However, the court did not take it into account.
Gas-filled balloons exploded during a campaign rally in Yerevan’s central Republic Square on May 4, 2012, sending 154 people to hospital with burn injuries.
Serob Bozoyan, who charged the balloons, had been charged with releasing/realizing products that do not meet security standards, causing health damage to two or more people due to negligence.
