President Sargsyan meets UN World Tourism Organization Secretary-General
President Serzh Sargsyan met Secretary-General of the UN World Tourism Organization Taleb Rifai on Friday.
The President stressed the importance of the International Conference titled “Universal Values and Cultural Diversity in the 21st century: the Significance of Tourism” that was held in Yerevan. He highly valued the role of the UN World Tourism Organization in the development of tourism which is considered one of the most dynamically growing areas of economy in the world.
According to the President, the title of the Conference and presentable composition of the participants testify that it has been an interesting, meaningful and useful for all participants.
Taleb Rifai noted that discussions held in the framework of the Conference have been rather productive; the Yerevan Declaration on the importance of intercultural dialogue and cultural diversity has been adopted unanimously.
The parties concurred that the role of tourism is also significant for the shaping of cultural heritage, environment protection, and intercultural relations.
At the meeting, President Serzh Sargsyan and the Secretary-General of the UN World Tourism Organization Taleb Rafai exchanged views on the programs implemented in and aimed at the development of tourism in Armenia, great potential of this area in our country, and a fuller utilization of Armenia’s competitive advantages for the development of the tourism area, presidential press service reported.
