Haykakan Zhamanak: Former Gyumri Mayor could face criminal charges
Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS), Police and Prosecutor General’s Office have separately demanded that Gyumri Mayor’s Office provide them with the whole document archive of 2005-2011, Haykakan Zhamanak reports.
An anonymous source in NSS told Haykakan Zhamanak that NSS wants to find out how the Mayor’s Office spent the nearly AMD 1.5 billion public grant provided annually. There is information that these funds were embezzled, and a big scandal will erupt nearly in a month.
Some say that former Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan could face criminal charges and could be imprisoned before the presidential elections as part of the fight against corruption, the paper writes.
