The multi-millionaire Carlos Slim, who is considered to be the wealthiest man in the world, has decided to buy into the Spanish football league and, according to the website 'Libertad Digital', has taken the first steps towards becoming the new owner of Getafe.
According to Marca.com, Ángel Torres, the club's chairman, has been looking for a buyer in view of the money the club owes, and the Mexican looks set to take over at Getafe.
Carlos Slim has started negotiations to buy Getafe and the deal should be finalised in the next few days. The Mexican is a big fan of Spanish football and aims to transform the club into one of the biggest teams in Europe. Money is no object as he has very deep pockets.
The takeover will be carried out by América Móvil, the company that owns the broadcasting rights of the 'Liga BBVA' in Mexico. Carlos Slim's dream is for Getafe to be in a title contender, challenging the might of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
