Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan sends note of protest to Baku Khabar newspaper
The Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan has sent a note of protest to Baku Khabar newspaper over its use of another place name instead of “Persian Gulf,” Iran’s semi-official news agency Fars said.
Iranian website Arannews.ir has recently commented on the matter, saying that Azeri media (Expess, Baku Khabar, APA) used the name “Arabian Gulf” instead of “Persian Gulf” while reporting on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s viewpoint about Persian Gulf security.
We will mention that in official UN records this place name is mentioned as “Persian Gulf,” but the Arab countries of the region – UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Bahrain - as well as several leading international media refer to it as “Arabian Gulf,” which is disliked by Iranian authorities.
