Expert: Sooner or later, Azerbaijan will have to accept Artsakh’s self-determination
Sooner or later, Azerbaijan will have to put up with the fact that the Artsakh people’s self-determination is irreversible, military expert David Jamalyan told reporters, while commenting on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement process.
According to him, international practice shows that artificial multinational states, which are unable to continue their existence but nevertheless, by the will of circumstances, have become a state, put up with the loss of self-determined peoples and territories and eventually recognized their independence.
However, Azerbaijan used the time since the ceasefire not to realize the reality and move forward, but to sow seeds of hate against Armenians and unrealizable hopes into its own people.
Therefore, under the circumstances, the expert noted, the only guarantee for maintaining the peace is the Armenian Armed Forces.
“The only guarantee for restraining Azerbaijan is the Armed Forces of the two Armenian states, and due to their fighting efficiency the enemy does not dare to pass from words to actions,” said David Jamalyan.
According to him, the Armenian side cannot retreat in the negotiations.
The expert stressed that conflicts over self-determination almost exclude a compromise solution, with the only way of settling the conflict being the recognition of the self-determined people’s right to independent and free life.
“We cannot cede part of our territory for the sake of something unknown and thus contribute to the strengthening of the enemy’s claims,” said David Jamalyan.
Given the above mentioned circumstances, according to the expert, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement negotiation process will be long, and it is not realistic to expect a quick solution.
