Prosperous Armenia’s proposal on shifting to parliamentary system runs counter to Orinats Yerkir Party’s political course
Orinats Yerkir Party held a meeting on Friday chaired by party’s leader Arthur Baghdasaryan. The meeting approved the tactics of consultations between political parties.
“Being committed to the political course and the efforts strained, attaching importance to the necessity of expanding the proportional electoral system as well as further improvement of political system, party’s political council established that it was necessary to discuss this issue after the presidential elections, expressing willingness to continue consultations with other political forces for reducing the number of single-member districts and securing the priority of a larger proportional system.
Orinats Yerkir Party establishes that Prosperous Armenia Party’s proposal on shifting to parliamentary system of government runs counter to the party’s political course, is untimely and unacceptable in the current complicated geo-political situation. The unresolved conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh and the current condition of Armenian-Turkish relations require presence of a strong centrist and democratic power,” says the party’s decision.
