Anti-American protests in Turkey have formal nature, says expert
Anti-American and anti-Islamic protests in Turkey have formal nature, they are controlled by government, political scientist Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan told reporters in Yerevan.
According to him, in contrast to the national consciousness, the religious consciousness level is not so high in Turkey for the American-made movie Innocence of Muslims or Koran burning to trigger protests in the country.
Through these protests, Turks want to show that they are the defenders of Arabs, he said.
Turkish Studies expert Gayane Chobanyan agreed to the opinion that these actions have organized nature, though they caused some tension in Turkey’s domestic political life. She said that in the domestic political life, there is discontent with the United States, but nevertheless, state-level relations between the United States and Turkey remain on a high level.
Gayane Chobanyan added that many people thought that anti-American protests in Turkey could lead to the aggravation of Turkish-American relations, but it did not take place because Turkey is an important country to the United States.
