Opposition unlikely to announce common candidate, says Arman Melikyan
The upcoming presidential elections will not differ from previous ones as there is nothing new in the political field, ex-Foreign Minister of NKR, ex-candidate for president of Armenia Arman Melikyan told reporters in Yerevan.
According to him, what we see in the domestic political life today is nothing else but a fight through different ways aimed at becoming part of the power, but not seeking of constructive and radical change of power.
“From this point of view, Armenia is a country of political idolatry, with every party based on one individual,” he added.
Arman Melikyan thinks that raising the issue of passing to a 100-percent proportional election system is a way of winning time. According to the ex-Foreign Minister of NKR, there is a process of party consolidation in Armenia, accompanied by formation of party oligarchy.
The opposition is unlikely to announce a common candidate, Melikyan noted.
“Levon Ter-Petrosyan is unlikely to back Gagik Tsarukyan, but the problem is not the individuals. There is incompatibility of principles. Even if parties representing different opposition poles unite artificially, it will cause problems for the country,” he explained.
