Serzh Sargsyan: Cooperation between Armenia and Turkmenistan has bigger development potential
At the invitation of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has arrived in Armenia for an official visit.
After meeting at the Presidential Palace, the two Presidents signed a joint statement and gave a press conference.
“I want to express my satisfaction with the meeting with the Turkmen President. We had a positive and substantial talk, during which many issues were discussed, including the perspectives of our cooperation,” said Serzh Sargsyan.
President Sargsyan noted that Armenia and Turkmenistan cooperate efficiently in different areas, but this cooperation has a bigger development potential for the sake of the two peoples. Serzh Sargsyan stated that, for instance, trade circulation volume could be higher than it is.
Armenia’s President said that they had stressed the necessity of deepening economic relations as well establishing close ties between business circles of the two countries.
“In this context, Turkmenistan’s President offered to hold a big business forum in Turkmenistan next year to give a good impetus to our bilateral relations,” said the Armenian President.
The Karabakh conflict was also discussed during the meeting.
“During our conversation, I reiterated my principled position on Karabakh issue: the conflict should be resolved exclusively by peaceful means, based on norms of international law,” said Serzh Sargsyan.
