Serzh Sargsyan is the only candidate who has chance of winning, says former MP
Currently there is no presidential candidate who could win except for incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan, former member of Armenia’s Supreme Council Azat Arshakyan told a news conference in Yerevan.
There is no second candidate who has a chance of winning, he noted. According to the former MP, candidates who would be equal to Serzh Sargsyan should have participated in Karabakh war, need to have past way, but current candidates have not served in the army and have no past way.
Political technologist Karen Kocharyan agreed that “currently only Serzh Sargsyan’s name is known in the political arena.”
“This is the consequence of devastation in politics lasting for about 20 years,” he stressed. “Even if Gagik Tsarukyan runs for presidency, there will be no ideological race. I see no struggle between authorities and opposition.”
Azat Arshakyan, for his part, stated that there is no ideological race, there is no authoritative candidate who could lead the people.
“The ideology of national liberation movement dominated in the 1900s, while today we need the ideology of statehood,” he noted.
