Iranian Embassy in Baku: Azerbaijan casts doubt on Iran’s territorial integrity
The Iranian Embassy in Baku condemns the anti-Iranian activities of the World Azerbaijanis Congress (WAC), reads a statement issued by the Iranian Embassy.
The statement says, in part, “The so-called World Azerbaijanis Congress is convening one more time in Azerbaijan - an organization, which has adopted anti-Iranian separatist policy and is once more casting doubt on the territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Iranian Embassy condemns the freedom of activities of this anti-Iranian organization and is waiting for the Azerbaijani government to show sensitivity in this case.”
Azerbaijani website Contact.az reported that in his remarks during a regular session of the World Azerbaijanis Congress held recently in Baku, WAC chairman, member of Azerbaijani Majlis Sabir Rustamkhanli spoke about Turkish-speaking Iranians, noting, in part, “Unfortunately, no books are published in Northern Azerbaijan (i.e. the Republic of Azerbaijan) about the national, cultural, social and political rights of our compatriots living in Southern Azerbaijan (i.e. Iranian Azerbaijan). Baku has panic fear of Tehran regime, and therefore the Azerbaijani authorities do not raise at international level the issue of violation of the rights of our compatriots in Iran.”
