Pashinyan: ANC has its presidential candidate – Levon Ter-Petrosyan
To tell the truth, for me, the domestic political situation has not changed, Armenian National Congress (ANC) parliamentary faction member Nikol Pashinyan told Panorama.am when asked to comment on Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukyan’s decision not to run for president.
Pashinyan noted that he had repeatedly voiced his position on this issue this year and therefore he thought that the recent political developments added nothing to what he had said earlier.
Referring to the statement of head of Heritage parliamentary faction Ruben Hakobyan that ANC gained nothing from Gagik Tsarukyan’s refusal to run for president, Pashinyan said, “I refrain from commenting on his statement. I reiterate that I have earlier expressed my opinion on this matter.”
“Armenian National Congress has its presidential candidate – Levon Ter-Petrosyan and if he makes a decision to run for president, ANC political council will only have to approve it,” he added.
The lawmaker found it difficult to say when ANC leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan would make a statement on his participation in the elections.
“I did not say that Levon Ter-Petrosyan would be a candidate for president. I did not say either that he would not be. I am not determined to voice anything that might predetermine this decision. Let us wait for the final decision,” Pashinyan concluded.
The following candidates have announced their intention to run for president: New Times Party leader Aram Karapetyan, National Self-Determination Union leader Paruyr Hayrikyan, specialist in epic Vardan Sedrakyan, People’s Party leader Tigran Karapetyan, Marxist Party of Armenia leader David Hakobyan, Heritage party leader Raffi Hovannisian. Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) will support incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan.
