Heritage member: Opposition ANC gained nothing from Gagik Tsarukyan’s refusal to run for president
Armenian National Congress (ANC) did not benefit from this situation. No one benefited from it, neither the political arena nor the state: everybody was affected by it. After all, we should understand that the behavior of any opposition political force in this or that way affects the moods of the entire opposition, and therefore, I repeat, everybody was affected by it, head of Heritage parliamentary faction Ruben Hakobyan told reporters in parliament.
We will remind that Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukyan announced on Wednesday, December 12 that he would not run for president in the 2013 elections. According to PAP’s press service, based on the statement of the party’s leader, the joint session of representatives of PAP parliamentary faction and political council adopted two decisions: 1. Prosperous Armenia will not nominate its presidential candidate; 2. Prosperous Armenia will not back any candidate.
According to Hakobyan, as a result of this the situation in the political arena became vague and the opposition yielded to temptation and lost much time. As for the upcoming presidential elections, Ruben Hakobyan thinks that everything runs behind the scenes, but it is not right because politics implies publicity.
“It is something like shadow economy. Despite the fact that a few days are left until the deadline for nominations expires, it is not yet clear who will be the candidates and nothing is clear yet,” the head of Heritage parliamentary faction said.
