Gallup: At upcoming elections President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan would receive 49% of votes
49% would vote for the chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), current President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan in the upcoming Presidential elections to be held in Armenia, in February 2013. These are the data of pre-election poll conducted by “Armnews” TV company together with the Armenian Sociological Organization and Gallup (Baltic Studies).
According to the results, 21% of respondents are ready to vote for the head of "Prosperous Armenia" Party (PAP) Gagik Tsarukyan, 6% for the leader of the opposition, the Armenian National Congress (ANC) Levon Ter-Petrosyan, 5% would vote for the RA second president Robert Kocharyan and the leader of the "Heritage" party Raffi Hovannisyan, 3% for the representative of the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun" (ARF) Vahan Hovhannisyan, 2% for the chairman of "Rule of Law" party (OEK) Arthur Baghdasaryan and 1% for PAP MP Vardan Oskanyan.
Respondents also answered the question, for whom they would never vote. In this respect, "the leader" is the first president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan with 39%, A. Baghdasaryan follows him with 16%, Robert Kocharyan is the third (12%). 11% of voters are not ready to vote for the current president and 4% for G. Tsarukyan.
The survey was conducted during the period when the ANC had not yet decided who would run for president. At the moment when data of survey were being presented in Yerevan “Marriott Armenia Hotel” Chairman of the "Liberty" party, MP of ANC faction Hrant Bagratyan left a comment on his page in Facebook which stated about his intention to run for president. Therefore, the part of the survey, which deals specifically with this politician, is more than relevant: only 3% of respondents would never vote for H. Bagratyan.
In the same time 72% of respondents have a positive attitude towards the leader of "Prosperous Armenia" and 61% have a positive attitude towards the incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan. 49% of the respondents mentioned the name of the second president Robert Kocharyan while answering this question, and 43% mentioned the name of Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan. Figures of the leader of the "Heritage" party are high too: 43% of the respondents gave the name of Raffi Hovannisyan, and 34% gave the name of Vardan Oskanyan.
As for the statement of the PAP leader and his decision of not participating at presidential elections the attendees of press conference noted that majority of votes for Gagik Tsarukyan will pass to Serzh Sargsyan.
The survey was conducted from 5 to 16 December in Yerevan and throughout all regions of the country.
The survey involved 1,020 adult citizens.
