PAP spokesman sees no connection between ANC leader’s age and his decision not to run for president
“This is a decision made by an individual and it would not be correct to comment on it. On the whole, while assessing it, I should mention that I always welcome any alternative proposal in any political process,” Tigran Urikhanyan, a spokesman for Prosperous Armenia Party, told Panorama.am, commenting on ANC leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s statement that he is not going to run for president.
According to him, there is a possibility of running for president and if there are individuals that will offer programs and will show respective abilities, they can run in the elections and claim to win voter sympathies.
“I would want the opposition, which, for its part, represents a certain part of people, to raise problems in the political arena and seek ways to solve them,” said Urikhanyan.
We will remind that commenting on his refusal to run for president, Levon Ter-Petrosyan told Chorrord Inknishkhanutyun in an interview, “Whatever you may say, a 68-year-old cannot have the same enthusiasm and ability to work as the one who is 40 to 60 years old. This is the optimal age for political figures seeking the presidential office. So, those who are younger than me have to appear on the arena.”
When asked if indeed the age is the reason why the first President made such a decision, Urikhanyan said that he could not comment on this issue.
“We should talk about personal abilities of the President and any other person seeking political office. In this case, age does not matter,” he added.
