David Babayan: Passing year was successful for NKR’s international recognition
Panorama.am held an interview with Artsakh President’s spokesman David Babayan about the most important events in NKR and results achieved in foreign and domestic policy.
- What developments do you think were most remarkable in foreign policy?
- The concept of NKR’s foreign policy includes three key issues: settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, development of bilateral relations and international recognition of NKR. We reached considerable success in two of the mentioned issues, but the passing year was not successful for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
- Could you reveal the details?
- I think the passing year was the most unsuccessful for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, with Baku deadlocking the negotiations with its policy. First of all, we should mention the case of axe murderer Ramil Safarov. Azerbaijan not only delivered a blow to the negotiation process but also committed gross violations of human rights and international moral norms.
- What positive events occurred in 2012?
- The year 2012 was successful for international recognition of NKR and development of bilateral relations. We held a number of important meetings, representatives of high-ranking foreign delegations paid official and unofficial visits to NKR. The issue of recognition of NKR was frequently discussed by Uruguay and other states.
- What domestic political events were most remarkable in 2012?
- In the current year the whole Armenian people celebrated the 20th anniversary of NKR Defense Army and the liberation of Shoushi, which was marked by a military parade. Another important event was the NKR presidential election that was held in line with democratic norms and was highly assessed by international observers. NKR achieved considerable progress in economy, in particular in such branches as mining industry, energy and road construction.
